Rockville Centre residents can now feed the parking meter on their phones

Rockville Centre residents will soon be able to pay for street parking in the village on their phones, Mayor Francis X. Murray and the Board of Trustees announced last week.

The option comes with the launch of Whoosh!, a phone app designed to give residents and visitors the ability to virtually feed the parking meters from not just phones, but also tablets and computers. A 50-cent fee is added to each parking transaction.

The new system is available in Parking Field No. 27, adjacent to St. Agnes Cathedral. Before rolling out the system throughout the village, the system will be tested to make sure it is running correctly and smoothly. Whoosh! can be downloaded from the App Store onto an iPhone or the Google Play Store onto an Android device. Users register their license plates and credit card information through the app or through www.whooshstore.com.

“Whoosh! helps make mobile parking payment an alternative to conventional coin- and bill-operated parking meters,” Murray said in a statement. “This new system will increase convenience and efficiency for residents.”
