Rockville Centre residents clean up Mill River’s shore

Mayor's Task Force, RVC Conservancy tidy up riverbanks for Earth Day

Members of the Rockville Centre Mayors Youth Task Force and the RVC Conservancy joined community members on April 21 to clean up the shorelines of Mill River.
The clean-up was held a day before Earth Day, an annual event first celebrated in 1970 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Earth Day events in about 200 countries are coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network.
Residents of all ages came out with bags to clear a variety of litter from Mill River and its shores. Among them were the Mayor’s Youth Task Force, which formed in 2011 and comprises teenagers that aid in various projects around the village.
Also present were representatives from the RVC Conservancy, a group that identifies public spaces which need attention, gathers volunteer support and private funding, and works with the village government to restore and enhance our trees, parks and public spaces.
