When they were growing up, the Rockville Centre Royals were a top Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) team. The Royals won the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) State Open Cup, the Kirkwood (Delaware) tournament, were WAGS finalists and competed in the Region 1 Premier League.
The Royals have continued their success as young women. They won the championship of the Long Island Women’s Soccer League this summer, shutting out the Farmingdale Freedom by a score of 4-0 in the final on July 29. The team is made up of players from the Royals, Rockville Centre Nightmares, Rockville Centre Power, Rockville Centre Tornadoes and other top LIJSL youth teams.
This is the fifth consecutive summer that Rockville Centre has won a women’s league championship to complete a royal flush. During that time, their amazing record is 44 wins and just one loss, coming to the Blasters, essentially the Dowling College women’s team, in 2009. Yet the Royals defeated Dowling’s team six times in summer play, including in three finals, and are currently riding a 34-game winning streak.
LIJSL Hall of Famer and NSCAA National Coach Peter Bralower has been coaching the Royals since they were young girls. Under his tutelage, the Royals train each week on a combination of fitness, technique and play. The training and games prepare the players for the upcoming college season and recent graduates for the senior leagues.
