Rockville Centre to push for new businesses, more beauty

Members of the Rockville Centre Chamber of Commerce heard from village officials who championed a new “can do” attitude: “How can we find a way to say ‘yes?’”

At the chamber’s meeting on March 6 at MacArthur Park, Trustee Michael Sepe, the village board’s liaison to the chamber spoke about how the RVC United Party used its own campaign funds to purchase trees for the Greystone business area of Long Beach Road, and he encouraged other businesses to work with the village government, in a cost sharing arrangement that is being developed, to beautify their areas as well.

Building Department Superintendent Daniel Casella also spoke about appearances, telling local business owners that their shops should have no more than 50 percent of their windows covered, and that owners should be aware about how much signage is covering their sidewalk.

Business owners were also told that the Rockville Centre Fire Department wants them to install lock boxes to enable emergency workers to gain access to the premises, if needed, without having to damage the buildings.

Chamber members were curious to know if any plans were in the works for the empty movie theater and the Waldbaum’s storefront on Sunrise Highway. While there has reportedly been some interest, they were told that there were no definitive plans that could be announced at this time.
