About $23,000 has been shaved from Rockville Centre’s tentative budget for the 2013 fiscal year, reducing the proposed tax rate increase from nearly 7 percent to 6.76 percent, according to Rockville Centre spokesman Jeff Kluewer. The announcement came in advance on a special village board meeting on Tuesday night to vote on a resolution to exceed the New York state “tax cap” and to adopt a budget for the fiscal year beginning June 1, 2012 and ending May 31, 2013.
The tentative budget, if passed, will produce an average village residential real estate tax bill of $3,266.69, a $207 increase over last year.
“Since the budget hearing on April 3, trustees Kevin Glynn and Mike Sepe have been working with Comptroller Michael Schussheim and Village Administrator Keith Spadaro to reduce the final budget as much as possible,” said Rockville Centre Mayor Francis Murray. “I thank them for their additional efforts on behalf of the homeowners of Rockville Centre.”
The mayor added that the reductions came from small cuts in many departments. Check The Herald online for results of Tuesday’s special meeting. The report on the meeting will also appear in The Herald’s May 3 issue.
