Coleen Finnerty, 15, Danielle Spitz, 15, Alana Loftus, 16 and Kyra Wenthen, 16, helped clean the Skelos walkway in Hempstead Lake State Park on Saturday.
This past Saturday, a determined group of villagers met on a chilly morning to give the Skelos walking path in Hempstead Lake State Park an early spring cleanup. Mayor Fran Murray, Deputy Mayor Nancy Howard and Trustee Mike Sepe were joined by volunteers that included members of the Mayor’s Youth Task Force, the Rockville Centre Youth Council and the Rockville Centre Conservancy board. Mary Beth and Justice Bill Croutier, Leslie Price, Justice Peter Skelos and former Trustee Andrew Karamouzis were also among those who picked up litter and cleared away underbrush to widen the exercise path that they hope will see increased use. Public Works Superintendent Harry Weed and village workers were on hand to help. And Robert Price, owner of The Tree Wise Men, donated a truck and crew to help with the project.
The conservancy is planning its next cleanup in Centennial Park around Earth Day and a tree project to celebrate Arbor Day. Look for news of their future projects in the Herald and follow them on Facebook at RVCConservancy.
