Students from the classes of Gregg Linker and James Duffy made it an extra special Thanksgiving for families at the Hi Hello Child Care Center in Hempstead this year when they donated baskets for those in need. Traditional nonperishable Thanksgiving foods such as stuffing, gravy and cornbread mix were collected by students and baskets were assembled on the Monday before Thanksgiving.
“If it weren’t for the students in my class (Gillian McCabe, Ali cMcWalters, Erin Peske, Tara Nass, Lauren Rudolph, Ciara McDonald) from Girl Scout Troop 815, led by Anne McCabe and their food drive that they held at Associated,” said Gregg Linker, “this would not have been as wonderful . She added that she didn’t think many other towns would have participated the same way and attributed a majority of their success to the fact that the Rockville Centre community is so close knit.
The students’ original goal was to make 10 baskets for Hi Hello, but thanks to the generosity of the Rockville Centre community, they were able to exceed that number, creating 39 amazing baskets.
