Lacrosse Hall of Famer
On Feb. 11, Tom Martello was inducted into the Long Island Metropolitan Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Martello has played lacrosse since junior high school at Elmont Memorial junior and senior high school, and then at Rutgers University. After college, he went on to join the Long Island Lacrosse Club where, for 12 seasons, he was selected as the USCLA All Club Defense Player and was selected multiple times as the USCLA Club All Star.
After playing lacrosse for more than 30 years, Martello went on to coach the Long Island Lacrosse Club and has been coaching youth lacrosse in Rockville Centre since 1994.
A sales manager for Anheuser Busch, Martello lives in Rockville Centre with his wife, Ginny, and four children, Nicole, Thomas, Christopher and Kayla.
A commissioned officer
Sean G. Kelly of Rockville Centre has accepted a 1st Lieutenant commission with the U.S. Army’s Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps. Kelly is a 2004 graduate of South Side High School, and received his undergraduate and law school degrees from Boston College in 2008 and 2011, respectively. He is currently attending the JAG school in Charlottesville, Va., and upon completion of his training at Fort Benning, Ga., Kelly will be assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division, stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C.
Taking the plunge
Bruce Mirkin, above, owner of Accent on Eyes on South Park Avenue, along with his daughter, Lindsay and friend Andrew Slepoy, participated in the annual Long Beach Polar Bear swim on Feb. 5, to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, an organization that grants wishes to very sick children and their families. Mirkin raised more than $500 dollars for the foundation from contributions from his generous customers.
