On Nov. 24, they got a real boost, when they guest-bartended at D.J. Houdek's, and raised over $1,500, all of which goes towards cancer research.
"It was a great night," said Houdek's owner Derrick Houdek.
The Baldwin High School class of 2000 graduates began training for the 26.2 mile race in September, which will take place in Orlando, Florida next month and runs through Epcot Center, the Magic Kingdom and MGM Studios. The marathon raises money for leukemia and lymphoma research. Since 1988, Team in Training has raised more than $700 million.
Doherty, a program analyst for Fox Television, and Kroell, a nurse at St. Vincent's Hospital in Manhattan, have been training rigorously for the event, and have worked hard to raise money.
"Lindsay and Karen have been working hard at their careers, their education and their personal lives, yet they still find time to help others," said school Board Trustee B.A. Schoen, who was on hand at the fund-raiser.
