RVC board votes to consolidate election districts

During the first village board meeting of the year on Monday night, the Rockville Centre Board of Trustees voted to consolidate its 22 election districts — with voting locations throughout the village — to a single voting location, the Recreation Center on Oceanside Road, for the upcoming village election on June 21.

After a unanimous vote, Trustee Dave Krasula explained that trimming the number of districts would help the village financially. He estimated the consolidation would save somewhere between $10,000 and $12,000.

“It simplifies the process by having it all in one location,” said Mayor Mary Bossart at the public meeting.

According to estimates, the last village election in 2009 cost the village between $18,000 and $20,000. Trustees had feared that costs associated with the new voting machines and scanners would have pushed expenses for the village’s election even higher.
