Successful summer reading programs for adults, teens and children at the Rockville Centre Public Library wrapped up in recent weeks, with a celebration and a soiree.
Youngsters were invited to the End of Children’s Reading Celebration and Petting Zoo on Aug. 13 and were encouraged to bring new school supplies that were to be donated to children in need by the Mary Brennan Interfaith Nutrition Network in Hempstead.
The library’s first-ever Adult’s End of Summer Reading Soiree took place on Aug 23, and provided the perfect opportunity for like-minded readers to mingle while enjoying light refreshments. The highlight of the evening’s festivities was a talk by Cristina Alger, the author of the bestselling novel, “The Darlings” followed by a question and answer period, a book sale and signing. Also on tap was a Chinese auction where attendees were eligible to win gifts and prizes valued at more than $500.
