RVC officers Meehan, Seward honored

Two Rockville Centre police officers were among 15 Nassau County and 10 village officers honored by the Hempstead town board at a ceremony on Sept. 20 at the Nathan L.H. Bennett Pavilion in Town Hall. Detectives Michael Meehan and Timothy Seward were recipients of the 2011 Town of Hempstead Police Service Awards.

Meehan and Seward spend countless hours investigating crimes and patterns of activity throughout the village. To get a sense of just how valuable these two officers are, you need only look only at May 2010. In that month, Meehan and Seward assisted Nassau police in investigating a series of bank robberies, ultimately leading to the arrest of a suspect. The same month, after a 16-year-old girl was shot in Hempstead, the two detectives recognized one of the alleged subjects, leading to an arrest on first-degree assault.

Also in May, when the Yonkers Police Department was investigating the whereabouts of two murder suspects whom they tracked to Long Island, Meehan and Seward recognized the two men as Rockville Centre residents. Both subjects were subsequently arrested and charged with murder.

“From solving murders and extensive undercover work to patrolling our streets, our police honorees have distinguished themselves as local heroes,” said Supervisor Kate Murray. “The town is proud to have the opportunity to recognize those who serve and protect our residents.”

A photo of Meehan and Seward is not being published at the request of the Rockville Centre Police Department because they perform undercover activities.
