"Running the marathon in New York City is a tremendous physical and personal goal for me," said West., noting that it was his first race. "I lost both of my granndmotthers to cancer - my father's mother to colo-rectal cancer and my mother's mother to breast cancer before I even got to know them. They missed out on a lot of things they should not have. There is so much more we can do with how we fight cancer. It's an honor to be able to run in this race and even more of an honor to support the great work of the Lance Armstrong Foundation."
West, who lives with his wife Kelly and his two sons Brady, 2 1/2 and Owen 5 months on Princeton Ave., said he was able to meet his goal of finishing the race in under four hours. His actual time was 3:49:05. "It was an incredible day," he said.
It was reported that Armstrong, who personally ran the New York City marathon for the first time Sunday as well, did reach his personal goal, completing the course in under three hours.
