U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced last month that they secured more than $92,000 for Long Island law enforcement entities, including nearly $2,000 for the RVC Police Department.
The money, from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bulletproof Vest Partnership, splits the cost of new body armor with the local precincts. Of the 772 vests received from the funding, five vests were purchased for Rockville Centre.
“This is a critical investment for Long Island’s law enforcement,” Gilibrand said. “Our community’s officers and first responders throughout Long Island put their lives on the line day in and day out to keep us safe. We need to make sure that when they are going into harm’s way, they have the necessary bulletproof armor for the job so they can protect our communities and save more lives.”
According to a press release from the senators’ offices, the Bulletproof Vest Partnership, created by a grant act in 1998, authorized the funding.
