This is just one of the many events planned to help villagers celebrate the holiday season. From ÒNutcrackers to menorah lightings, there's something for everyone.
Santa will be back to take Christmas list requests from good little boys and girls at the annual breakfast with his helpers at the Recreation Center, 111 North Oceanside Rd., on Sunday, Dec. 14. This is one of the village's most popular events. According to Tony Brunetta, superintendent of parks and recreation, more than 700 people have already signed up for the breakfast, and he expects the total to climb to 1,200.
The breakfast is served in three different seatings, at 9:15, 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. The fee is $4 per person, and the deadline for tickets is Friday, Dec. 12.
For those looking for a little Hanukkah fun, there are two community celebrations. The National Council of Jewish Women and the Recreation Department will once again co-sponsor a party at the Rec Center on Monday, Dec. 15 from 4 to 5:15 p.m. Children of all faiths, pre-kindergarten to second grade, are invited to enjoy music, crafts and games.
The annual Community Menorah Lighting will be held at Central Synagogue, 430 DeMott Ave., this year on Sunday, Dec. 21 at 5:45 p.m.. After the candles have been lit, refreshments will be served inside.
For those seeking a little culture to go with their celebration, there are two versions of ÒThe Nutcracker available. The Rockville Centre Guild for the Arts and Leggz Ltd. Dance production, accompanied by the South Shore Symphony, will be performed at South Side High School, 140 Shepherd St., on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 5, 6 and 7, at 7:30 p.m. For tickets, call (516) 766-7171.
The Maple Avenue Dance Studio will stage its annual production at Molloy College, 1000 Hempstead Ave., on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 6 and 7. For tickets, call (516) 594-9745.
If a hoedown is more your style, come down to the Rec Center's annual Toys for Tots Square Dance on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 8 to 11 p.m. Bring a new toy for admission to an evening of square-dancing at all levels. Toys will be distributed to needy children.
The Rockville Centre Chamber of Commerce is getting involved in the holiday fun for the second year in a row with its Home Holiday Decorating Contest. The chamber will award prizes to exterior holiday displays based on visual appeal, originality and creativity. To register, call the chamber at (516) 766-0666 by Dec. 12. Judging will take place on Dec. 17. Prizes include gift certificates to chamber member businesses.
