Leon Campo, deputy superintendent of schools, said, "This grant is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to undertake important construction projects without taxing the community. We must act swiftly, as other school districts will apply for this grant aid."
Deborah Coates, president of the Board of Education added, "We urge all taxpayers to vote on Dec. 21 at our elementary schools. Without this grant, we would ultimately undertake this important construction at a cost to our taxpayers. Our taxpayers deserve some relief, and the Excel grant provides some very real taxpayer help."
Dr. Robert Dillon, superintendent of schools, concluded, "I hope that every resident spreads the word about this referendum. We cannot qualify for the grant without the support of the community."
The vote for the referendum, to apply for the one-time grant, will be held on Dec. 21 at elementary schools from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
