School briefs - Middle School proposing changes to bell schedule

At a regular Board of Education meeting on May 24, South Side Middle School Principal Shelagh McGinn described changes administrators at the school would like to institute to the bell schedule in the coming year. The changes, she said, would provide the students with more instructional time, specifically more time, a full half hour every morning, for extra help. Bus schedules will remain unchanged. Under the proposed schedule, the Breakfast Program would run from 7:35 a.m. to 8 a.m. Extra help would start at 7:40, ending at 8:10; Advisory - 8:15-8:24; Period 1 - 8:27-9:06; Period 2 - 9:09-9:48; Period 3 - 9:51-10:30; Period 4 - 10:33-11:12; Period 5 - 11:15-11:54; Period 6 - 11:57-12:36; Period 7 - 12:39-1:18; Period 8 - 1:21-2; Period 9 - 2:03-2:42; dismissal at 2:42; regular bus runs at 2:55 with all district late bus runs at 3:40 and 5:30.

Board recognizes tenured staff, thanks mentors
At the same meeting, the Rockville Centre Board of Education recognized a number of teachers and one administrator for their appointment to tenure. Superintendent Dr. William Johnson and board president Lorrie Brady personally congratulated each and handed each a proclamation. The following teachers were recognized: Richard M. Brzeski, Nicholas A. Calandrella, Anita Casey, Amy E. Crossman, Anne M. Errera, Dawn Middleton Gallagher, Sarah A. Henyan, Keith C. Hiam, Phyllis H. Johnson, Jennifer M. May, Cindy D. Miller, Natalie Napoli, Rebecca A. Nelson, Elizabeth A. Nisler, Frederic A. Paul, Giuseppina L. Piccarreta, Erica S. Rechtweg, Courtney A. Schuh, Alisa I. Toth, Inderpal S. Walia, Meryl P. Wasserman, Linda Weiss, and Christopher M. Zappia. Laurie E. Levy was the sole administrator also receiving recognition that evening. The administration and the school board also thanked the following teachers for their services in mentoring new teachers entering the district: Kerry Alessi, Kenneth Bohman, Christine Brown, Marissa Ann Buckley, Katherine B. Burke, Gerardo D'Angelo, Anna Elias-Bonet, Jeanmarie Griffo, Christina Josling, Maria LaSorsa, Marianne Mancusi, Pamela Rakeman, Jeffrey Rubenfeld, Theresa Taplin and Meryl P. Wasserman.
