A school bus transporting 23 children collided with a Toyota pickup truck at the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Sunrise Highway in Lynbrook early Tuesday morning, according to police. No one on the bus was injured.
One passenger in the Toyota suffered injuries and was transported to an area hospital. The crash occurred at approximately 7:23 a.m. while the school bus was travelling northbound on Ocean Avenue and the pickup truck travelling eastbound on Sunrise Highway.
An employee of bus company Independent Coach Corp. said he believed the bus route was transporting children outside of the Lynbrook School District.
The driver of the Toyota, who was not injured, was issued three summons, one each for being unlicensed, uninsured and for having an unsecured load of sheetrock on the bed of the truck.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene. The investigation into what caused the crash is ongoing, police said.
