There are projects in progress in all three districts, in addition to regular scheduled maintenance and work to make sure the schools are safe for all students.
Students at East Rockaway High School will be welcomed back to a new front walkway and steps. The high school gym was also repainted, new wall mats were installed, the wood floor was resurfaced and the roof repaired. The crawl spaces under the high school are being cleaned, which coincides with the completion of the oil spill cleanup begun earlier in the year.
The Centre Avenue school also underwent roof repair in one of its wings, and the Rhame Avenue school is completing an irrigation project on its field, which will also include a new top dressing.
Throughout the East Rockaway School District, re-tiling of floors and painting was done on an as-needed basis, along with new ceiling tiles and lighting in various locations.
In Lynbrook, space in the high school is being converted to classroom use, and rooms at South Middle, Marion Street and Waverly Park schools are being reconfigured for academic use. The high school is undergoing a partial roof replacement, and the cafeteria is being expanded owing to increased enrollment.
Outside the classroom, Lynbrook is installing new bleachers at Marion Street school, and many fields are being fitted with new scoreboards to enhance the athletic program.
Malverne School District, too, is upgrading some fields by replacing some of the backstops. The major summer project in the district is the renovation of several science labs in the middle school. Two labs are being completely updated, with new cabinetry and refinished floors. They will also get new seats and a new teacher demonstration area. Two other labs will receive new teacher demonstration areas as well, which were made possible by a grant from state Sen. Dean Skelos (R-Rockville Centre).
