Seaford F.D. welcomes community at open house

Posted

Seaford residents gathered plenty of safety tips while meeting the men and women who protect and serve the community at the fire department’s open house on Oct. 16.

October is Fire Prevention Month. In conjunction with the national awareness campaign, Seaford Fire Department officials opened their doors at 2170 Southard Ave. to the community.

Firefighters presented several demonstrations with controlled blazes, even showing attendees how the Jaws of Life tool works. The event also featured free giveaways, a lesson on how to use a fire extinguisher, as well as barbecue safety tips.

Many attendees were children and young adults. They had the chance to learn about the department’s Explorers Program for teens ages 14 through 18. It’s designed to teach young people about being a firefighter and gear them towards becoming a volunteer member once they are of-age.
