Seaford High School senior Jacqueline Galison spent two weeks this summer taking a course at Harvard University as part of the school’s Pre-College Program.

Galison, a self-described lover of literature, took the 10-day course entitled “Heroes, Lovers, Villains, Fools: Archetypes and Modern Culture,” which covered a semester’s worth of material. Some 10,000 applications were received for the program, and Galison was one of fewer than 600 accepted.

For Galison’s final presentation, she explored the archetype of the revolutionary, and drew distinctions between sub-types within that tradition, according to a Seaford High School press release. Examples from contemporary fantasy, Shakespeare and musical theater were provided in her presentation.

While attending the program, Galison lived in college housing, which helped prepare her for the transition to college. Galison said she wants to study international relations or public policy when she beings college in 2019.
