A second suspect was nabbed in connection with the robbery of three boys who were out making money by shoveling snow in Oceanside last week.
Police arrested a 14-year-old for first-degree robbery on Saturday, Jan. 24 after three boys, ages 12 and 13, who had been shoveling snow on residents' property, were approached by three teens in the parking lot of Temple Avodah, 3050 Oceanside Road, and took their earnings of $105 on Jan. 14. Due to his age, the Herald will not print the suspect's name.
Police said that during the robbery, one suspect displayed a knife in his waistband and demanded money from the boys, and after receiving their loot fled on foot in an unknown direction without hurting their victims. The robbers were described as three white males between the ages of 15 and 16.
Lt. Gregory Detwiller of the Fourth Precinct told the Herald that the 14-year-old suspect was the robber who displayed the knife and demanded the money.
"He had the knife tucked in his waistband and demanded the money," Detwiller told the Herald.
Detwiller was unsure of the details on how police were led to the suspect's arrest, but added that the investigation led to him and "he might have even surrendered."
Two days after the robbery, police arrested a 15-year-old Oceanside resident for first-degree robbery in connection with the crime. The third suspect, however, remains at large.
"The investigation on the third subject is still continuing," Detwiller said.
