On Thursday, September 15, Atria Tanglewood in Lynbrook put on a “USO Dance and Social” as their closing celebration of National Assisted Living Week.
The event allowed the residents to remember those special USO dances that they attended during World War II — and brought back such popular moves as “The Peabody” and “The Jitterbug” and “The Charleston.” The Atria Tanglewood residents strutted their stuff, and got “In the Mood” with the help of Dance Therapist, Lisa Wisel.
After the dance, the residents got together to enjoy some refreshments, and told stories about their days during the service.
This special celebration was a way to honor the many veterans that are living at Atria Tanglewood. Additional events were held throughout the week to celebrate the annual tradition of National Assisted Living Week. They included a Grandparents Day Party for the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Tanglewood; a 9/11 Memorial Service; an Ice Cream Social for teachers in the local community, and a “Giving Back” Bingo game, where the winnings were given back to a charity.
All events were held at Atria Tanglewood at 125 Ocean Avenue in Lynbrook.
