Do-it-yourself pet beds at Elmont Library

Teenagers can make dog beds at the Elmont Memorial Library on Aug. 28 at 4 p.m. The beds will be made without sewing and will be donated to local animal shelters. Pokémon club meeting

Children in grades 3-6 can play, battle and trade their favorite Pokémon at the Elmont Memorial Library on Oct. 3 at 4 p.m. The children must bring their own Nintendo devices, such as a DS or a 3DS. College financial aid workshop at the library

The founder and director of the nonprofit Long Island Funding for Education will discuss methods to maximize a family’s eligibility for college financial aid at the Henry Waldinger Memorial Library on Oct. 3 at 6:30 p.m. Some of the topics that will be discussed are financial strategies and scholarship opportunities. Middle school and high school parents and their children are welcome to attend. Registration is required, with preference given to Valley Stream library cardholders. A celebration of Irish women
