The Fourth Squad reports the details of serious vehicular accident involving two pedestrians that happened in West Hempstead on Sunday, May 25 at 11:35 p.m.
According to detectives, a 1998 Ford traveling east on Hempstead Turnpike and being operated by a 65-year-old man struck two pedestrians crossing the street. A 31-year-old man and a woman, 35, were crossing Hempstead Turnpike from north to south in the vicinity of Garden City Boulevard when they were struck.
The driver was transported by ambulance and treated for lacerations to his hands at a local hospital. The female pedestrian suffered severe head trauma and was air lifted by a Nassau County Police helicopter to a local hospital for treatment. The male pedestrian also suffered head trauma and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
Detectives report no apparent criminality with the accident at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
