A Nassau County Police Department helicopter landed in the John A. Anderson Recreation Center's parking lot on North Oceanside Road. The cyclist was airlifted by the rescue chopper to Nassau University Medical Center. At last report he was alive with a broken leg and internal injuries. The driver of the car, Brian M. Mooney, 38, of Long Beach was reportedly not hurt, but according to police, he was arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired, after a field sobriety test, administered at the scene, indicated he was driving while impaired, presumably because of prescription medication.
