Sewanhaka budget fails Elmont, FS pass; Ferrigno-Guibert race to close to call

Breakdowns of how each of the areas in the district voted have not yet been made available, but the Floral Park-Bellrose Elementary and New Hyde Park-Garden City Park Elementary districts, the other two components of the Sewanhaka Central district, both rejected their elementary school budgets.
In Elmont's board races, incumbent Robert Nori won re-election over challenger Patrick Nicolosi by a 971 to 929 margin. Challenger Pamela Monteverde defeated four-term incumbent Carl Termini by a 1,013 to 910 margin.
The third seat, however, remains too-close-to-call at the posting of this report. Uncertified numbers have incumbent Lorraine Ferrigno clinging to a one-vote lead over challenger Elsy Mecklembourg Guibert, 973 to 972.
Also running a razor-thin margin is the $25.7 million Franklin Square Elementary School District budget, which appears to have passed by a seven-vote margin, 786 to 779. In the open board seat, John Randazzo has defeated Alan Lahti, 1040 to 346, and incumbent Joseph Armocida defeated challenger Margaret Murphy, 754 to 600.
The Elmont Elementary School Budget of $54.97 million passed with some breathing room, 935 votes in favor to 817 votes opposed.
In Valley Stream #13, the double-digit increase in the tax levy appears to have paved the way for a 1,077 to 1,030 defeat. Also failing was the district's transportation proposal, 1,085 to 1,064. The Valley Stream Central High School District budget of $75.99 million, however, has passed, 2,046 in favor to 1,823 opposed.
All results remain uncertified as of Wednesday morning.
