Ronald Nevilles, of 33 Carol St. in Lakeview, was charged with attempted murder.
Fifth Precinct police officers responded to a call reporting the shooting at 1160 Woodfield Rd. at about 4:26 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19. When they arrived, they discovered a male victim with a gunshot wound to the chest. While at the scene, police said, they received information allegedly tying the crime to Nevilles. Based on the tip, officers Richard Grogan and Robert Conklin drove to the Carol Street address. At 4:50 p.m. they arrested Nevilles as he allegedly attempted to flee.
Police recovered a loaded .32 caliber semiautomatic handgun near the scene. Nevilles was charged with second-degree attempted murder and second-degree assault. He was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Monday.
The victim, whom police did not identify, was taken to Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola. He was listed in stable condition.
