Show of support for the victims

The teenagers, representing every class in the school, held a walk-a-thon to demonstrate solidarity with the victims of an alleged series of sexual assaults that took place at a Pennsylvania football camp in August.
Students also took pledges to raise funds for the Long Island Crisis Center in Bellmore, which, among other services, counsels rape victims.
The walk-a-thon was held on the track surrounding Mepham's football field. Only a month earlier, the track was the site of a student walkout protesting the cancellation of the school's football season. At the protest, which drew a couple of dozen students, young people jeered before the swarm of media that had surrounded Mepham.
This time, a couple of hundred students turned out for the walk-a-thon and smiled proudly for the handful of cameras at the school that day.
