There may be a few drives off the tee that go awry at this year’s annual Lynbrook Community Chest Mayor’s Golf Outing, but the event as a whole is shaping up to be firmly on the fairway.
Three stalwarts of the community were selected as honorees for this year’s outing — Peter Ledwith, village attorney, Bill Gaylor, past president of the Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce and its current co-vice president of government affairs, and James McQuade, owner of McQuade’s Neighborhood Grill on Merrick Road. All of the proceeds raised at the event will benefit the Lynbrook Community Chest, which provides assistance to Lynbrook residents who are in need of help due to financial or economic hardships. The Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce co-sponsors the event that will take place on May 13 at the Seawane Club in Hewlett Harbor.
The Lynbrook Golf Committee selected the three honorees earlier this year and Chamber President Denise Rogers said she is happy with this year’s picks. “These honorees are individuals that have proven human kindness exists,” she said. “They have given their time to help others, made donations to help support others, and have been leaders in demonstrating that an act of kindness goes a long way.”
Jeff Greenfield, a co-vice president of government affairs for the Chamber, played a big role in putting the golf outing together. He said each of the honorees were unanimously selected and the three men have all contributed their time and resources to the event for years.
Gaylor, who owns the Lyn Gift Shop on Atlantic Avenue, said he was very happy when he received word he was to be honored and said the golf outing is always a nice affair. “It’s really awesome to be thought of highly by your village and the people that are running this event,” he said. “That they would think I have done enough to deserve such an honor and it’s a very humbling thing.”
McQuade said he was surprised by the honor and added that it’s extra nice to be recognized at an event as special as the golf outing. “It’s just a great camaraderie with all the people, great friends, great golf course and it’s a great day out,” he said.
