Six scouts from Rockville Centre Troop 40 were recognized in an Eagle Scouts Court of Honor ceremony as they reached the ultimate goal in scouting on June 4 at the St. Agnes Parish Center.
Matthew Baxley, Matthew Friedman, Luis Jimenez-Franco, Jonathan Kelly, Thomas Norton and Daniel Varney reached the accolade. Each scout completed an Eagle Scout project before reaching the rank.
Baxley built and installed two lending libraries for the village, Friedman participated in a temple beautification project at Congregation B’Nai Sholom Beth David, Jimenez-Franco built and installed a kiosk at Hempstead Lake State Park, Kelly restored the mezzanine at St. Agnes’s Msgr. Melton Auditorium and collected bottles to raise funds for the St. Agnes food pantry, Norton built and installed a ball pit at Hempstead Lake State Park and Varney completed a beautification project of signs and landscaping at St. Mark’s Church.
Attendees at the event included Scoutmaster Thomas Varney, Assistant Scoutmaster David Norton, Father Michael Duffy of St. Agnes, Rabbi David Lener of Congregation B’Nai Sholom Beth David, Pastor Scott Ressmean of United Church, Assemblywoman Judy Griffin, Hempstead Town Councilman Anthony D’Esposito, Hempstead Town Clerk Kate Murray and Rockville Centre Mayor Francis Murray.
