The Rockville Centre Fire Department quickly put out a smoky house fire at 9 p.m. on June 30.
Officials said that when they arrived at 32 Cumberland Ave., they found heavy smoke conditions and determined that the dryer in the home’s basement was on fire. After extinguishing the blaze, fire department personnel checked the rest of the house to make sure the fire hadn’t spread.
Two people, a Rockville Centre police officer and a resident of the home, were taken to South Nassau Communities Hospital for reported smoke inhalation. Firefighters from Baldwin and East Rockaway assisted Rockville Centre volunteers, under the direction of Assistant Chief Robert Seaman in fighting the blaze.
