Snowflake Runs like the win

       Joe Russo, 20, of Hempstead blew the field away by over a minute with a blistering time of 22:02. The Kellenberg graduate now in his third year at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. "It was fun," Russo said. He also won the race last year. Russo said he runs in the Snowflake Run and Turkey Trot every year.
      His mother, Janet Russo, said that her son trains hard for school and treats races like these as workouts rather than competitions. "He just works hard," Janet said. "Instead of training today, this is his workout. He's very humble."
      Pat Gallagher of Long Beach said that he enjoyed his run, even if the harsh wind was difficult to deal with at points. "The wind was nice coming back [at the end] because you're so hot," said Gallagher.
      Gallagher said that the crystal clear skies, combined with temperatures that reached the 40's made for a perfect day to get out and get some exercise. "You don't get a lot of these days," Gallagher said. "I'll seize the opportunity."
      On the women's side, 13-year old Molly Kempton of Island Heights, NJ won with a time of 25:51.
      The top three male finishers from Long Beach were Wayne Vartabedian (24:44), Damian Sciano (24:46), and Martin Brown (26:20). The top three Long Beach females were Mimi Boyle (28:10), Amy Biel (28:40), and Patricia Brown (30:16).
