A large crowd gathered at Skelos Sports Complex last Friday for the official start of the Rockville Centre soccer season. Highlighting the evening was a high school varsity doubleheader featuring South Side’s boys’ and girls’ teams. Many of the RVC Soccer Club teams were on hand to cheer and take in the action.
The defending New York State Class A champion Lady Cyclones hosted Sacred Heart and came away with a 1-0 victory thanks to a second-half goal by Katie Ford off an assist from Michaela Lynch.
The boys’ game against Baldwin followed at 8 p.m., and after a scoreless first half the Cyclones got a pair of second-half goals off the foot of Jack McKenna for a 2-1 victory. Greg Abrahams scored for the Bruins, who got 10 saves from goalie Dan Capone. Thomas German made six saves in the cage for South Side.
