Dist. 30 Board looks at
environmental impact
      Valley Stream Union Free School District 30's Board of Education will be holding a public meeting at the Shaw Avenue Elementary School on Monday, August 6th at 8:00 p.m. regarding facilities plans.
      Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting, at which the Board of Education and associated professionals will discuss the environmental impact of plans to address the district's facilities challenges as they relate to classroom space and core curricula areas. After the environmental impact information is shared, residents will have an opportunity to have their questions answered and share possible concerns relating to future plans.
      At its next meeting on Monday, August 27 at 8:00 p.m., the Board anticipates adopting a bond resolution that includes the necessary components to address current and future space needs of the district. This meeting will also be held at Shaw Avenue Elementary School.
HS Board holds special meeting, August 2
      There will be a special business meeting of the Valley Stream High School District Board of Education on Thursday, August 2, at 8 p.m. in the Board Room, second floor, rear entrance of Memorial Junior High. The agenda is expected to include some personnel appointments and the awarding of the food service bid.

WIC works
      The Health Department's Women, Infants and Children Supplemental Nutrition Program (WIC), has recently changed to a fully automated system and is able to print up to three months of food vouchers for eligible participants.
      WIC serves as a health, nutrition and prevention program in Nassau and is considered the most cost effective, preventative nutrition program of its time.
      WIC participants receive food vouchers, redeemable at local grocery stores and pharmacies, for infant formula and nutritious foods, such as milk, cheese, fruit juices, iron-fortified cereals, peanut butter, dried beans and eggs.
      Nassau County Health Department provides WIC services to over 10,500 income-eligible pregnant, breastfeeding and post-partum women, infants, and children up to age five who are determined to be at medical and/or nutritional risk. Current WIC financial eligibility includes a family of four with a gross annual income of up to $32,653, or a pregnant woman with a gross annual income of up to $21,479.
