Funds for hospital

The South Nassau Communities Hospital has received nearly $1million from the American Red Cross Liberty Disaster Relief Fund to support its September 11 "Bereaved Kids Initiative" and "Home Ground" programs. "We have to remember that for many people, business is not as usual since September 11," said Joseph Quagliata, President and CEO. "We are very grateful that the support from the American Red Cross Liberty Disaster Relief Fund will continue to help see those afftected through the long healing process."South Nassau's World Trade Center Family Center is the largest family counseling program in New York. Since its inception, it has served over 1,300 bereaved family members. The one-year recovery grant provides $930,000 for the "Bereaved Kids" initiative, a resource for children who lost family members on September 11, and their parents. The grant also supports counseling for rescue and recovery workers and their families who are still struggling in the aftermath of the tragedy. This new program will enhance existing services offered at the World Trade Center Family Center through an innovative partnership between South Nassau's team led by Thomas Demaria, Ph.D., Assistant Vice President of Behavioral Health Services and the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City."This grant and the special partnership we have established with Mount Sinai's world-renowned academic team provides invaluable resources for our World Trade Center Family Center so that we can offer intensive state-of-the-art bio-psycho-social assessment and remediation services to parents, families and children who were deeply wounded by the terrorist attacks," Dr. Demaria said.Community based agencies in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland and Virginia will receive $20 million in recovery grants from the American Red Cross Liberty Disaster Relief Fund for mental health, wellness and access to recovery services. The American Red Cross September 11th Recovery Program, which administers the grant program, provides assistance, support and guidance to those directly affected by the attacks of September 11. Services include case management, financial assistance for mental health and health care, support and information groups and other financial assistance.
