At the Nassau County Soccer Coaches annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 6, six members of South Side High School’s boys’ varsity soccer team were honored. Seniors Kevin Cook, Chris Harkins, Will Nelson and Taylor Kosakoff each received acknowledgments for various accomplishments throughout the soccer season.

Kevin, the only four-year starter on varsity, was honored as All Conference Player for 2011. Will, a defensive stalwart for the past two seasons, was also honored as All Conference Player for 2011. Chris received All Conference Honors, and was also selected to participate in the annual Exceptional Seniors Game as the representative from South Side High School. Earlier this summer, Chris, along with Taylor, were selected to play in the inaugural Executive Cup Game, which was an All-Star Game for Nassau County Boys Soccer Players.

Taylor received two awards that evening. He was selected as the South Side High School recipient of the Scholar Athlete Award. Taylor, a senior goalkeeper, was also the winner of the Richard Daoust Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to one high school senior who “best exemplifies the intelligence, work ethic, discipline and love of the game that Coach Daoust expected of all soccer players in Nassau County.” Daoust was a former president of the NCSAA and the award also provides a scholarship for the award winner. Taylor was selected based upon his academic achievement and numerous activities, including serving as co-president of RVC Youth Council, as a member of Athletes Helping Athletes and for four years as treasurer of the Class of 2012.

Two juniors from the team were also recognized for their accomplishments. Kyle Morrissey received Honorable Mention All County for his contributions as the Sweeper for the varsity and Mark Romanski was selected for his second consecutive year to All County.
