Players wanted The Carey Icehawks have now become the Sewanhaka Central High School District Icehawks. We have been in existence in Carey HS since 2001. Any 5th - 11th grade student who is districted for either Sewanhaka High School, New Hyde Park, High School, Elmont Hisch School, Floral park High School, and H. Frank Carey are eligible to participate. We play in the Long Island High School Hockey League of Nassau County. Torah Study Seminar The Elmont Jewish Center, 500 Elmont Rd., Elmont offers a monthly seminar held on Saturdays (September through June) at 1:30 p.m. Rabbinic and Talmudic reference and interesting interpretations. Cartoon workshop On Saturday, June 11 2 to 3:30 p.m., Derek Maitland discusses creative cartooning, comix, animes and the various ways one can pursue a career with such interests. Bring your own drawing supplies for this hands-on workshop. Registration on-going and is limited to 15.


Babysitting workshop On Monday, June 27, 6:30-8:30 p.m., registered nurses Jo Ann Tanck and Georgette Basso present a two-hour basic first aid course and an introduction to babysitting skills. You will receive a certificate for attendance and the only requirement is to bring a large stuffed animal or baby-sized doll.Registration begins Monday, June 13.

Summer reading Children finishing grades K-6 are invited to read books about music, and any other books they enjoy, from Monday, June 27 to Saturday, Aug. 20. Sunday program On June 12 at 2 p.m., we conclude the season with an unusual and amazing event: world-renowned harmonica artist JAI-YI HE. He has won many international competitions and has appeared as a soloist with major orchestras internationally, including the Nassau Pops Symphony. One of his most exciting pieces is George Gershwin's " Rhapsody in Blue" accompanied on the piano by his daughter Jenny. Don't miss this incredible performance.


Care for the Caregiver On Wednesday, July 6 at 1 p.m., Michelle White conducts this seminar providing useful information to the residents of the community. Caregivers have an enormously difficult task so take advantage of this opportunity to ask questions and get answers from an expert. Ms. White will also spend some time discussing coping skills.

"A Taste of Long Island" to benefit victims of domestic violence


The Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence will present their eighth annual "A Taste of Long Island" sponsored by the Cavit Collection and Bank of America on Monday, January 10, 2005, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Carltun in Eisenhower Park, East Meadow. Tickets are $75.00 for general admission and $100.00 for reserved seating for the first 100 reservations. All proceeds will support the services and programs of the coalition.
