The Malverne Village Board of Trustees meet on Wednesday, May 4 at village hall, 99 Church St., Malverne. The Hempstead Town Board meet on Tuesday, May 10 at 10:30 a.m. at Nathan Bennett Pavilion, One Washington St, Hempstead.


Lupus benefit.


To benefit the Lupus Alliance of LI/Queens, Malverne-based entertainment Web site Thecelebritycafe.com is hosting an auction fund-raiser on Sunday, May 22 at the Melville Marriott in Uniondale. Congregation Beth Israel, 141 Hilton Avenue in Hempstead, holds Friday night services on the third Friday of each month at 7:45 p.m. Services are followed by a program/speaker and Oneg Shabbat. Class Reunion.


A 30th reunion of the West Hempstead High School Class of 1975 is planned for Oct. 14 at the Garden City Casino, 51 Cathedral Ave., Garden City. Help is needed to inform transplanted classmates about the reunion. Call Mary at (516) 483-9167 or maos14@aol.com.


Neighborhood Watch. Malverne Neighborhood Watch meets every third Wednesday of the month at the Malverne Public Library. For more information, call Joe Lanzetta, president, at 599-2343.


West Hempstead JCC. The Jewish Community Center of West Hempstead, 711 Dogwood Avenue, holds daily Minyan services, Mondays through Thursdays at 6:40 a.m.and 8 p.m.; on Fridays at 6:40 a.m. and candle lighting; and on Sundays at 8:30 a.m. and 8 p.m.


The JCC will host an Israeli Dance on Mondays May 2, 9,16, 23 and June 6, 20, 27 at 8:15 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. There is a $60 fee.


The JCC is also having Yiddish Chavurah on Thursday, May 12 at 10:30 a.m. This program is free. Registration is required for the dance and Yiddish Chavurah, so call (516) 481-7448.

Thrift Shops. Our Lady of Lourdes Church's thrift shop, located at Park Boulevard and Sheehy Place in Malverne, is open on Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and on the first Saturdays of the month from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For more information call (516) 599-1269.


Malverne Community Presbyterian Church's thrift shop is open Wednesdays from 10 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. and the first Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the church hall on Nottingham Road.


Malverne Homemakers meetings are held the first Tuesday of the month at 8 p.m. at the Malverne Community Presbyterian Church on Nottingham Road.


Chinese auction.


American Legion Cathedral Post # 1087 A.L. Auxiliary will host a Chinese (silent) auction on Friday, April 29 at 7 p.m. at 233 Woodlawn Rd., West Hempstead. Circus "R" Us.


Enjoy an exciting afternoon of circus antics and "big top" thrills starring Anna Jack, a featured performer on the "Late Show with David Letterman." The show's thrill-a-minute action and lively audience participation will amuse and amaze everyone at Echo Park on Friday, April 29 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 with children under two admitted free.


Amazing Earl, a clown/mime will present the Parable of the Sower - a free program for all ages - at Grace Lutheran Church, 400 Hempstead Ave., Malverne on April 21st at 7 p.m. Dinner is available at 6 p.m. for $5 with advance reservations. Also, join us for "Fun Day" on Saturday, April 30 from 10 a.m. to noon. Consumer protection workshop. Christine Sculti, outreach coordinator for the State Consumer Protection Board, gives a worshop on how to combat the latest consumer scams on Tuesday, April 26 at 7 p.m.


Never too old to become computer literate.


The West Hempstead Library is offering six two-hour courses for adults interested in learning about computer programs through May 10. All classes provide 12 laptop computers to a maximum of 24 students per class. Each two-hour class is $10. Register now.

"Wilby," a bittersweet comedy about the difference a day can make, will be screened on Friday, April 22 at 2 p.m.

Learn how to make an animated film with animation artist Ed Klein, who has worked for Warner Bros., Disney, Hanna Barbera and other animation studios. Design your own short film which will be photographed and transferred to video tape by staff. Open to children grades five and up on Monday, April 25 and Tuesday, April 26 from 6:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.

Learn how to create an e-mail using some of the popular providers, including free Internet e-mail applications like Yahoo, Hotmail, Lycos and more. In a hands-on lecture and demonstration class on Wednesday, April 27 at 2 p.m., learn how to get an e-mail address, send, receive, forward and reply to e-mail. After mastering the basics, learn how to attach files, photos and images to e-mails you send and how to download attachments sent to you. Registration began on April 13 for Malverne library cardholders and April 20 for non-cardholders.

Jackie Rogers presents a history of Long Island wines and what makes the region suitable for vineyard grape growing on Wednesday, May 11 at 6:30 p.m.
