Elmont F.D. Fund drive Starting the week of Jan. 23, envelopes with information will be sent out to all residents of Elmont for the annual Fire Department Fund Drive. Please read the information and send in your donation to a cause that protects you and your neighbors. Fund drive will be held from Jan. 23 to April 30.


Casting call The Wesley United Methodist players are on the hunt for new talent, needing two males to play a KGB Agent or a sultan for their production of Woody Allen's "Don't Drink the Water." Call Linda at 481-1797 for more.

SEPTA seeks vendors the Special Education PTA in Valley Stream, needs vendors for its second annual Spring Fair Fri., March 11, from 6 to 10 p.m. The fair will be held in the cafeteria and gym of Memorial Junior High. SEPTA represents all 14 elementary and secondary schools in the community. Once on this Island Elmont Memorial would like to invite all to the spring musical, "Once on this Island" on March 4th and 5th at 7:30pm in Elmont's auditorium. Directed by Elmont's Music Chairperson Eileen Kramer and choreographed by Jessica Torres, the musical cast consisting of students grades 9-12 will be selected by audition. The musical is produced by music teachers Christine Johnson and Lisa Kolb. Students will be re-creating the Broadway musical based on the novel, My Love, My Love by Rosa Guy. It is a story of one girl's quest to test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred, and death. Young GOP The Nassau Young Republicans will be honoring FoxNews Contributor and Westchester County District Attorney Jeanine Pirro at their annual Freedom Gala & Awards Dinner to be held on Thursday, April 28 at Sandcastle Caterers in Franklin Square. Fashion show The Clara H. Carlson Sixth Grade Committee in Elmont will be hosting their 6th Annual Fashion Show on March 11, at Pompeii Restaurant in West Hempstead. This event will be to help raise funds for our children's end of the year activities. Some teachers, parents and even custodians have volunteered to model for this event. Board meetings The Elmont School District will host a budget workshop on Tuesday, March 15 in the Covert Avenue auditorium, followed by a presentation in each of the six schools in the district: Tuesday, April 5 at Covert Avenue School Library, Thursday, April 7 at Stewart Manor School Library, Monday, April 11 at Clara H. Carlson Auditorium, Wednesday, April 13 at Alden Terrace School Library, Thursday, May 5 at Dutch Broadway School Library and Thursday, May 12 at Gotham Avenue Auditorium. All meetings begin at 7:30 p.m.The next regular meeting of the Franklin Square School District will follow a 7:30 p.m. building tour of Washington Street School on Wednesday, March 9. There will be an additional Board Work Session on Wednesday, April 6, at the Washington Street School at 7:30 p.m. The Sewanhaka Central High School board will next meet and discuss the budget on March 22, 8 p.m., in Sewanhaka High School's upstairs meeting room. The Valley Stream Central High School District Board of Education is meeting March 8 at 8 p.m. in the Memorial Junior High School Cafeteria B. District 13's board is meeting March 22 at 8 p.m. at the James A. Dever School.

Tax Help The VITA Program-Town of Hempstead Department of Senior Enrichment will be here with free tax help for everyone beginning Monday, February 14, from 1 - 3 p.m. Sessions will continue every Monday through April 11 with the exception of February 21. The VITA Program-Hofstra University will be here with free tax help for everyone beginning Saturday, February 5 from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Sessions will continue every Saturday through April 9.

Native American storytelling On Saturday, March 5 at 2 p.m., John Two Crows is here to tell entertaining stories to children in grades 2-5. Registration begins on Monday, February 28.


SAT help Back by popular demand -- two sessions of SAT preparation. These workshops coincide with the spring SAT exams being given this spring. Saturday, February 26 2:30 - 4:30 p.m and Saturday, March 5 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. Registration begins Saturday, February 12 and is limited to 15. First preference is given to seniors and juniors.


Paint a plate Craftsperson Joanne McGerty offers programs which appeal to all ages. Not only do you learn to make a beautiful and useful craft but everyone has such a good time! On Wednesday, March 2, at 1 p.m. Transform a clear plate into a work of art using sponge painting techniques, stencils, and designs. Registration begins on Monday, February 14. Fee for materials is $5.00.


Hot air balloons On Monday, March 14, kids in grades 1-3 use your imagination to decorate a hot air balloon lantern. Registration begins on Monday, February 28.

Express yourself Thursday, March 10 at 7 p.m. Art historian and critic Vensa Mison discusses Expressionism, an artistic movement which made its mark at the beginning of the 20th century predominantly in Northern Europe, including Germany. Expressionism aims to reflect the artist's state of mind rather than the reality of the external world.


All Luck On Sunday, March 20, Jimmy Moore presents THE IRISH SHOW. It's a great day for the Irish with music from Broadway to Blarney celebrating the day for the wearin' o' the green! "A Taste of Long Island" to benefit victims of domestic violence


The Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence will present their eighth annual "A Taste of Long Island" sponsored by the Cavit Collection and Bank of America on Monday, January 10, 2005, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Carltun in Eisenhower Park, East Meadow. Tickets are $75.00 for general admission and $100.00 for reserved seating for the first 100 reservations. All proceeds will support the services and programs of the coalition.
