The Oceanside Chorale is looking for new members, especially tenors and bases. If you like to sing, they have a position for you. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings at 8 p.m. starting Sept. 3 at the Merle Avenue School in Oceanside. Call chorale President Frank at 764-2787 for more details.
The AARP Oceanside chapter will be having its first meeting of the fall on Sept. 19 at 12:45 p.m. at St.Anthony's Church, located at 80 Anchor Ave. in Oceanside. Non-members are welcome to attend. Coffee and cake will be served. For more information, call 771-0986.
The Island Park United Methodist Church is sponsoring a roast beef dinner and silent auction on September 20 at 364 Long Beach Road, Island Park, from 5 to 8 p.m. The donation is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $5 for children. The New York-Metro Lutheran Church has a long standing partnership with the Lutheran churches of Tanzania. Come and learn more about this fascinating country through the sharing of food, stories and song. Comedy Night. The Men's Auxiliary to V.F.W. Post #5199, located at 407 Weidner Ave. in Oceanside, will be holding a comedy night on Sept. 27. The night will include three comedians, dinner and an open bar. The cost is $35 per person. Doors open at 7 p.m, and the show begins at 8:30. For more information, call Scott Miller at 316-4048.
Fall Fair. The First United Methodist Church of Oceanside, located at the cornoer of Atlatntic Ave. and Davison St, will be holding its Fall Fair on Sept. 27 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The fair will feature pumpking and gourds, wreaths and crafts galore, handmade items, fresh Long Island vegetables, fall flowers, homemade pickles, baked goods, granny's attic and a barbecue lunch. The day will conclude with dinner at 5:30, which will be a choice of spaghetting and meatballs or chicken parmesean served buffet-style for $15 per person. Tom Gwyne, VP for programming at the Cradle of Aviation, discusses this fascinating topic, including a history of the US space program and the challenges astronauts face on long-duration space missions. Refreshments will be served.
An Adventure to Mohonk Mountain House The magnificent enchantment of this 266 room Victorian castle sits on thousands of acres of pristine forest and winding trails in the picturesque Hudson Valley, just a few hours from New York. Enjoy a private morning tour of the house, followed by a world famous buffet. After the dining experience, choose from one of two options: enjoy a leisurely one-hour walk outdoors led by a naturalist or for the more active adult, you may choose the hour-long hike. Following the afternoon activity, you will have additional time to explore. The trip takes place on Wednesday, October 29 and costs $107. Please register no later than Friday, October 10.

Parent education program The JCC's Parenting Resource Network and the Early Years Matter campaign present experienced early childhood professionals, Alice Brown and Toni Liebman, to discuss why no child will be left behind in a learning environment based on play.
