Cruisin¹ Thursdays Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce announces its annual Car Show. This event is taking place on June 7-10, and continues every Thursday night at 7 p.m. until August. on Atlantic Ave. between Sunrise Hwy. and Merric Rd. Music, DJ¹s and pure family fun.
Huckleberry Frolic Sponsored by the East Rockaway Sons of The Legion, the 38th annual Huckleberry Frolic will be held on Sat., June 9, kicking off with a 10 a.m. parade into the park and festivities to follow in Memorial Park. There will be a Party Planet Baby Parade starting at 11 a.m., with special guest SpongeBob Square Pants. At 1 p.m. residents will put on the 4th Annual East Rockaway Idol Talent Show; at 2 p.m. Rio Academy will present a karate demo; A dog obedience show will be performed at 3 p.m. The petting zoo is ongoing from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Masons will provide free CD identification for children from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Senior Center. Liberty Hose Co. will run a fire drill from 2-3 p.m. Raffles at 4:14 p.m. Boy Scouts, schools, good food, arts and crafts vendors, raffles, white elephant and book sales. Residents to bring old movies, CD¹s, VHS tapes to the white elephant sale, where they will later be distributed to area VA hospitals. DJ entertainment by FM Entertainment of East Rockaway. Sign up for soccer The Lynbrook/East Rockaway Soccer Club will be holding Fall Intramural Soccer Registration, open to boys and girls in Grades K through 8, at the Greis Park Recreation Center on Wilbur Street, in Lynbrook, on Thursdays, June 7 and 14, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, June 16 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Secret Gardens of Malverne

Stars and Stripes Festival The Village of East Rockaway will host the 1st annual Stars and Stripes Festival on Thurs., July 5 (rain date July 6.) Held at the newly refurbished waterfront on Main Street, from 5 to 9 p.m. Enjoy food served by the Fishery, a magician, DJ, Salsa dance lessons, a hoola hoop contest, carnival games and prizes, a bounce house, cotton candy and popcorn, an old-fashioned Pie and Chili Bake Off contest, Leggz Ltd. Boys Summer Lacrosse Camp East Rockaway Recreation, located at 475 Atlantic Ave. will be offering a Lacrosse Camp that will be run by Johns Hopkins Graduate and All- American National Champion James Detommaso, who has also coached the Long Island Lizzards, a Professional Lacrosse team. Assisted by Brian Soper, goalie of the year from Adelphi Univ. Boys grades 3-7. Calling all animal lovers The Center for Science Teaching and Learning (CSTL), is searching for volunteers to assist with its upcoming Amazing Animals Exhibit at the Sands Point Preserve in Port Washington. opens June 9 through January 14, 2008. Volunteers are needed to assist with the care of animals, serve as exhibit docents, assist with field trips, and more. Searching for teachers, photographers, graphic artists or veterinarians. How does your garden grow? Lynbrook village is making applications available for lots at the Lynbrook Community Gardens. Apartment dwellers and homeowners who do not have enough sunny property make use of the opportunity every year. Lots are approximately five feet by 20 feet and are available for Lynbrook residents at a cost of $35 per lot, which includes a $10 refundable fee for gate and water keys. The gardens are located at the end of Wright Ave., near Greis Park. Applications will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.
