Trip to A.C.


The Oceanside Jewish Center Sisterhood is sponsoring a trip to Atlantic City on July 18. The bus will leave for Ballys at 9 a.m., the cost is $36 each, and each participant will get back $18 in coins. Bagels and coffee will be served prior to the trip. For information call Sandy at 536-7095.

Cartooning workshop


Kids in grades 7 to 12 can create their own original cartoon characters with artist Derek Mainhart, who will discuss character development and practice a variety of cartooning techniques, including facial expressions and creating complex forms from simple shapes. All materials will be provided for this workshop at 7 p.m. on July 11.

Grab bag game show


Start your kids (grades 7-12) summer off with this side splitting audience participation show. Be entertained and challenged by a variety of trivia and improv games, physical stunts and more. Win prizes to take home and get a preview of what the Library has in store for teens this summer.The show is at 7 p.m. on June 28. Tickets are available at the information desk.

Teens 'n' tots read together


Teens in grades 7-12 meet once a week to share the joy of books with a new young friend. To participate, you must attend the orientation from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on July 11. Attend all four sessions and receive a certificate of participation. The program meets on July 12, 19, and 26.

Books discussion


In Alice Hoffman's "Here On Earth," March Murray returns to her small Massachusetts hometown after 19 years to discover the heartbreaking and complex truth behind her childhood sweetheart's reckless love. The book discussion will be led by Seena Edelman at 2 p.m. on July 11.

Discover the writer within


In this four-part summer series, professor Barbara Novack invites writers of all levels to stretch their creativity in this workshop. The workshop meets Thursdays at 11 a.m. on July 6 and 20 and August 3 and 17.

Young adult chess club


Kids in grades 6 to 12 can play for fun and improve their skills under the guidance of chess master Joel Salman. To participate kids must pre-register and have knowledge of how the pieces move. The club meets from 7:45 to 8:45 p.m. on July 11, 18, 25, and August 1.

Art lecture


Professor Thomas Germano connects the life and times of Baroque Master-Gian Lorenzo Bernini, a sculptor and architect of Dan Brown's best-selling novel, "Angels and Demons," as he is credited to be the artist behind the secret society of the illuminati. The lecture at 2 p.m. on July 13.

Book discussion


The novel "The Amateur Marriage" by Ann Tyler traces the tempestuous relationship shared between a couple in a mismatched marriage and its consequences over three generations. The discussion will be led by Seena Edelman on at 2 p.m. on August 8.

Blood pressure screening


A registered nurse from the Long Beach Medical Center will be available for a drop-in screening at 2 p.m. on June 27.

Musical Moppets


Molly Mouse, Pat and Laurie will be back to delight youngsters ages 3 to 4 and their caregivers with music, games rhymes and storiesat 10:15 a.m. on July 7. Register in the Children's Room.

Movie: Fateless


A teenage Jewish boy from Budapest finds himself in turmoil as Hitler's Final Solution becomes policy throughout Europe. Taken from his family and sent to a concentration camp, his existence becomes a surreal adventure in adversity in order to survive. This movie will show at 2 p.m. on July 10.

Take me out to the ball game


Join the JCC for a summer night of America's favorite pastime: baseball. The bus will leave the JCC to see the Brooklyn Cyclones take on the Staten Island Yankees in Brooklyn's Keyspan Park at 5 p.m. on Aug. 7. The cost is $49. On the road again


Spring is here and JCC adults will hit the road on various day trips. These trips are as follows:

Oct. 23 to Nov. 2: The Splendors of Central Europe: Prague, Vienna & Budapest. This tour is historically and visually rich, with ample time to enjoy art, architecture, music and food in every city. From the fascinating and authentic city that created Kafka, to the sensuous, rich feel of Hungary and the old-world sophistication, music and coffeehouse culture of Vienna, you will feel spoiled with delights in every destination. You will be filled with a feeling of being somewhere you have been before, as though in a dream. The price is $2,895 per person/double occupancy.

Singles program


Join Sophisticated Singles, for ages 35-55, every Monday, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. This weekly program gives singles the opportunity to meet one another as well as learn about themselves. Irwin Pfeffer is the facilitator.

Hitchcock lecture


It's no wonder that with such unforgettable motion pictures as Vertigo, Rear Window, The Birds and dozens of others, Alfred Hitchcock was known as the master of suspense. Join classic film scholar, Newsday writer and author Daniel Bubbeo for a discussion about Hitchcock, recurring themes in his movies and clips from some of his best-loved films on July 10. Bereavement support group


Grief is a normal, universal, healthy reaction to loss of any kind, but the grief journey can sometimes be painful, lonely or overwhelming. The JCC is offering a Bereavement Support Group for Recently Widowed starting on July 20 from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and will run for eight weeks. The cost is $120.
