Flea market Island Park Methodist Church will hold a flea market Sept. 17 beginning at 10 a.m. in the church's parking lot at 364 Long Beach Road. Hebrew study Ivrit la Hadassah, Hadassah's National Hebrew studies program, offers Hebrew language study created specifically for adults. The peer-led classes of study are on four levels of skill and use an exciting, low-pressure approach that emphasizes basic skills and conversational fluency. These groups meet at Oceanside Jewish Center, 2860 Brower Avenue, every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Classes will resume on September 13. Buffet luncheon The First United Methodist Church of Oceanside will hold an all-you-can-eat buffet luncheon at 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 27. The cost is $6 per person. The church is located at the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Davison Street. For further information call 766-3778.


OCS dinner dance Oceanside Community Service will hold its annual dinner dance at 7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Oceanside on Oct. 7. The cost is $35 per person for a evening of music, dancing, prizes, hors d'oeuvres, cash bar and a sit-down dinner with choice of entree. Talk on medicine The Oceanside chapter of "AARP" will meet at 1 p.m. on Oct. 21 at St. Anthony's Church, 80 Anchor Avenue. Patti Eaton from the Long Island Visiting Nursing Association will talk on medication and medication management. For information call 771-0986.


Fall fair
The First United Methodist Church of Oceanside, at the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Davison Street, will hold its Fall Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 1. The craft and harvest celebration will feature pumpkins and gourds, wreaths and crafts galore, handmade items, fresh Long Island vegetables, fall flowers, homemade pickles, baked goods, granny's attic and a barbecue lunch buffet for $12 per person. Sept. 15 - Social Security discussion


A representative from the Social Security Administration will discuss the impact of the Medicare Modernization Act's (MMA) new voluntary prescription drug program (Part D of Medicare), effective Jan. 1, 2006 and review the application to be filled out to receive this service at the Oceanside Library at 11 a.m.


Sept.22 - Digital photography workshop "Digital Doctor" Stuart Gershon for the final two sessions of his picture perfect series at the Oceanside Library from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 22 and October 20.


Sept.20 - Role of women by male artists Art lecturer Louise Cella Caruso captures the essence of womanhood from antiquity to the 20th century in slides as depicted by the gifted male artists of the time at 2 p.m. on Sept. 20. The works of such artists as Vermeer, Valasquez, Manet, Lautrec, and Modigliani will be studied and compared to literature written by such famous women as Anne Lindbergh and Berry Friedan. Sept.27 - "Oceanside" author gives talk Oceanside resident and author Richard Woods shares his nostalgic pictorial book spotlighting the Oceanside community, "Images of America: Oceanside" on Sept. 27. Woods' historical book provides an array of photos from various sources dating from the late 1800s to the 1960s, from Oceansiders who found fame to landmarks such as St. Anthony's Underground Church, Beall's Zoo, the Roadside Rest, and Nathan's Famous restaurant. Learn Cartooning Do your kids love to draw? Enroll them in the Oceanside Friedberg JCC's Introduction to Cartooning class in which students will learn the basics of drawing and perspective as they are taught to sketch, ink and color their favorite cartoon characters and develop their own original comic strips. Jim Keef, a graduate of the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon & Graphic Arts and an author/illustrator of Flash Gordon, will teach this class for kids in grades 1-2 on Thursdays and for grades 3-6 on Wednesdays.
