The Sewanhaka Central High
School District Icehawks hockey team has tryouts scheduled for Thursday, July 21 at 6:15 p.m. at Iceland, 3345 Hillside Avenue in New Hyde Park. Tryouts are open to all H. A Softball Tournament
Fundraiser will be held at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex during the weekend of July 23-24, 2005. Proceeds from the Tournament will go to the construction of the Nassau County 9/11 Memorial, which is scheduled to be completed on September 11, 2005.
America's 22nd annual
Night Out Against Crime will be held rain or shine in Elmont at the Dutch Broadway Sports Complex on Dutch Broadway just west of Elmont Road on Tuesday, August 2 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Long Island Cars
Endless Summer Car Show and Swap Meet will be held at the Belmont Racetrack in Elmont on Saturday and Sunday, August 6 and 7.
A wide range of more than 500 collectible cars, from vintage to exotic, will descend on the grounds of the hallowed racetrack to show off their immaculate interiors, pristine paint jobs and what's under the hood. Show cars will receive a photo plaque on Saturday and compete in classed judging on Sunday. Hundreds of vendors will be on hand selling automotive parts, equipment, accessories and literature. The Car Corral will also offer a variety of cars for sale by owners. Food and refreshments will be available.The show is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine, both days. Admission is $8, with children under 12 free. Show cars and vendors register at Gate 3 between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. each morning of the show.
The Rotary Club of Valley Stream is sponsoring its 8th annual Rotary Road Run on Sunday August 7 at 8:30 a.m.
On race day, runners should sign in and pick up their number on the village green between 7 a.m. and 8:15 a.m., at the corner of Sunrise Highway and Hicks Street.

Sons of Italy Membership Drive Order Sons of Italy in America is seeking new members to join the America Lodge #2245, Franklin Square, Elmont, West Hempstead, Floral Park, Garden City, Stewart Manor, and Malverne. The America Lodge #2245 has 300 members and a membership drive is currently in progress. The America Lodge #2245 is co-ed lodge with many projects that enhance the preservation of the members' Italian heritage. In addition, scholarship awards totaling over $250,000 have been awarded to children and grandchildren of lodge members in the past. There is a perpetuation scholarship program annually. The Order Sons of Italy is engaged in fighting bias and bigotry against the Italian people. The Lodge raises funds for contributions to worthy charities by holding an annual feast on Memorial Day weekend. Don't dump in the drains
The Town of Hempstead and SPLASH (Stop Polluting, Littering and Save Harbors) to affix "no dumping" medallions on storm drains throughout the entire township. The medallions will serve as a reminder that dumping has environmental consequences. This program is part of the township's effort to curtail source pollution of local waterways.
Residents should never dump anything down storm drains including pet waste, pesticides, old motor oil, paint and antifreeze With the assistance of SPLASH volunteers, 5,000 medallions will be placed in high-priority areas. The program will then be extended to all south shore communities with 30,000 no dumping medallions to be affixed on storm drains.

residents 60 years of age and older are invited to join the fun at the Senior Summer Beach Program. The 10-week program runs weekdays June 27 through September 2. Entertainment and activities include arts & crafts, dancing, bocci, swimming, shuffleboard and leather crafting. Summer Beach passes provide for entry and free parking at the park any weekday. If you prefer not to drive, use the passes to board the free Senior Enrichment Department buses at designated pick-up stations on appointed days.
