Rockaway Recreation Department is offering the American Red Cross course for CPR and AED certification on Saturday, April 23, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Recreation Center, 475 Atlantic Avenue. The course will be given by Dominic Vulpis, the athletic director at East Rockaway High School. The fee for the course is $35, and checks should be made out to E.R. Recreation Department. Journeys with sound presents Sounds of Ancient Civilizations on Thursday, April 28, at 11a.m. This interactive program provides unforgettable journeys of sound and spirit with exotic world music from ancient cultures with Australian didjeridoos, Aztec wind whistles, Native American eagle-bone whistles, deer-hoof rattles and giant ceremonial drums, to name a few. Come and explore ancient customs, folklore, and ways nature is honored. Students may ask questions, handle the instruments and learn new ways to make musical sounds. They will also write and draw about their "dream journeys"in follow-up projects. Dystrophy Association needs volunteer counselors to help young people with neuro-
muscular diseases enjoy the fun at the upcoming MDA summer camp, Aug. 19 through Aug. 26, at Camp Visions, Spring Valley, New York. volunteer counselors must be at least 18 years old and able to lift a person between the ages of 6 and 21. Counselors help campers with daily activities, such as eating, bathing, dressing and in recreational areas like sports, arts and crafts and swimming.
