Unity Party seeks candidates

A church of celebration The Church of the Nazarene on Ocean Avenue in East Rockaway is celebrating its newly refurbished altar and restyled church by welcoming all those interested in coming to the 10 a.m. service on Sunday, July 16, with a celebration immediately following. On the radio Nassau County Legislator Jeffrey Toback (D-Oceanside) will be a guest on Nassau Community College's radio program, station WHPC 90.3 FM, on Monday June 26 at 10 a.m. The show, "Law You Should Know" is hosted by attorney, Ken Landau. On the program Legislator Toback will talk about how to navigate the maze of local government. After its initial airing, the interview will again be broadcast:

Learn defensive driving The East Rockaway Recreation Department, along with the National Safety Council will present a six-hour Defensive Driving Course for insurance and point reduction at the East Rockaway Recreation Department, 475 Atlantic Ave., on Sat. Vacation Bible School A vacation Bible School is being offered at Lynbrook Baptist Church, 225 Earle Ave. in Lynbrook. A cool Bible School Vacation Bible School will be offered at the East Rockaway Nazarne Church from June 26-30 from 6-9 p.m. The program is for ages 4-12. This year's theme is the Arctic Challenge, for more infor call 599-3116. All are welcomed.

Senior housing options Senior Care at Lynbrook, 8 Freer St. Lynbrook, is offering a free panel discussion, "Seniors - Planning your Housing and Funding Options" on Tuesday, June 27 from 10 a.m. until noon. Haiti in art The Cask Foundation will present the art exhibition, "Haiti Through the Eye of the Artist: featuring the work of Emmanuel Dostaly and Michael Brudent". This exhibition will be the first in a series of contemporary Haitian Artists living in the United States and their views and memories of Haiti.The exhibition will run now through July 16, with the opening reception taking place on Saturday, June 24 from 6-8pm The Cask Foundation is located at 48-D Atlantic Avenue in Lynbrook. Give me liberty The East Rockaway Recreation Department will be hosting a trip on Tuesday, June 27 at 7:30 p.m. to see New York Liberty vs. Charlotte Sting at Madison Square Garden. A $25 ticket includes seating, one hot dog, soda and chips. New York Liberty autographs will be available after the game. You must supply your own transportation. Girls Softball East Rockaway Recreation and the NYIT College Softball Coaching staff are offering Girls Softball Camp, for ages 8-16, from July 10-14 at the John St. Complex from 4:30-9 p.m. The fee is $100 per person and includes a T-shirt. Players need to bring glove, cleats, and if possible, helmet and bat. Registration is ongoing on Mondays 10-11 a.m., Tuesdays, 3:30-5:30 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and Wednesdays, 3:30-5:30 p.m. For more information call (516) 887-6321.

Boys Lacrosse The East Rockaway registration is offering Boys Summer Lacrosse Camp, for boys ages 3-7, July 10-14 at the John Street Complex. 1-4 p.m., $75 fee, includes tank top. Prizes awareded at end of sessions, lacrosse stick and mouthpiece required. Call (516) 887-6321 for more information.

Step into summer The East Rockaway Recreation Department presents beginner step aerobics, instructed by Lisa Kosotan. This is a high-energy activity that incorporates music and rhythm into a step routine. The class begins on Wednesday, July 5. The fee is $45 per person.

P.J. story time Pajama Story Time will begin on Thursday evenings, starting July 6 at 7 p.m. There will be 30 minutes of sleepy stories. The children can wear their pajamas and bring their favorite stuffed animal. For children three years old and younger.

You've got mail The library will be conducting classes on how to use email.  We'll help you set-up a free account and teach you to send and receive messages. Grab a movie seat Tuesday is "Grab Bag" night at the library. Each week in July and August, the library will show feature films at 1:30 p.m. in the community room. To find out what's showing, you can pick up a flyer or call the Monday before. The schedule will include recent Hollywood blockbusters as well as modern classics. Admission is free.

Book club meets The Evening Book Club will discuss "Anil's Ghost" on Wednesday, July 5 at 7:30 p.m. A limited number of copies will be available at the Circulation desk.

Literary club discussion The Lynbrook Literary Club will meet on Monday, June 5 to discuss "The Voyage" by Philip Caputo. Copies of the book will be available at the Circulation desk. Everyone is welcomed to attend the monthly meetings, held in the library's board room.
