A ribbon-cutting ceremony will open the festivities at 7:15 p.m. in the main lobby, with a student from each of the 10 elementary schools reading a quote on the theme of "Nothing Is Impossible."
Then all visitors will be welcomed to walk through the school, viewing the educational displays and performances by students in Valley Stream's 10 elementary and four secondary schools.
"The children who come through the Valley Stream schools show us that they can achieve in every sphere-the arts, music, physical education and academics," Harris said. "Lights On is the visual representation of that achievement. It also showcases the schools' nurturing environment, through the cooperation and collaboration of teachers, parents and community members."
"We encourage the entire community to come out to support 'Lights On' and to see all of the hard work and dedication that our students display on a daily basis," said Lights On coordinator and Memorial Assistant Principal John Squadrito.

The exhibit schedule rotates each year among the four schools-from music to physical education to academics to art and career/technology projects.
This year, North High School will feature its academics; Central High School, its music; South High School its physical education and athletics; and Memorial Junior High its visual arts.
In addition, all 14 schools have been invited to send a musical ensemble to enliven each area of the school.
Following tradition, Cafeteria A will be filled with hands-on demonstrations from the district's five career prep programs in auto technology, computer business operations, construction and remodeling, cosmetology, and culinary arts, including the popular food taste-tests and cosmetology services.
Also according to tradition, on the second floor science corridor and classrooms, the Memorial science department will exhibit student science research projects and other interesting science exhibits.
The Memorial band room is expected to be the site for Memorial's multicultural music and dance presentations.
In the main hall, the Teacher Center will display its grant-winning classroom projects.
The PTA's will provide free refreshments in the cafeteria line and sell $1 "scholarship squares," which raise funds for the PTSA scholarships for graduating seniors.
The Valley Stream Council of PTA's is the only known PTA in the state to be continuing the "Lights On" tradition that started in 1962.
