SSHS commencement set for June 22

South Side’s Class of 2011 capped its special day by tossing mortarboards to the rafters of Hofstra University’s Arena at the end of last year’s commencement ceremony.

South Side High School’s 121st commencement ceremony will be held on June 22 at 5 p.m. in the Hofstra University Arena.

Emily Passarelli will deliver the valedictory address Carly Roman will give the salutatory speech. .

The officers of the senior class of 2012 include Taylor Schwarting, president; Carly Roman, vice president; Nick Suss, secretary; Taylor Kosakoff, treasurer. Class advisors are Gina Peck and Christine Brown.

The officers of the Student Government include Kasey Ng, president; Madison Bondy, 1st vice president; Emily Passarelli, 2nd vice president; Michaela Beck, secretary, and Alyssa Adler, treasurer. The Student Government advisor is Marcy Pedone.

The senior boy and girl who have been most involved in extracurricular activities during their high school careers will be presented with the Laurel Awards. In addition, recipients of the Richard S. Beyers School-Community Service Award will be announced. The Centennial Awards will also be presented by the Alumni Association. Additional awards for the 2011-12 school year will be presented to members of the Class of 2012 at the Varsity S Dinner on June 6 and the Awards Assembly on June 11.

Dr. Carol Burris, South Side’s principal, will present the 262 students of the class of 2012 to the members of the Board of Education for their diplomas. Board of Education President Liz Dion will address the audience.
