The South Side High School Cyclones wowed the hometown crowd at the Homecoming game on Oct. 12, defeating Herricks 21-7.
Alex Pickett scored a touchdown after a run, and Steven DiMare and Michael Nunziato scored after both caught passes from Paul Pandolfi.
“It was a great team effort,” said Coach Phil Onesto. “We ran the ball very well. I think we ran for over 200 yards in the game.”
Onesto also praised the team’s defense, which only let one touchdown through. “Alex Weiss did a great job,” Onesto said. He also praised Kevin Rafferty, calling him the “heart and soul” of the Cyclones’s defense.
After the Cyclones won the game, Danny Collins, a team member with Down syndrome, threw a touchdown pass to Stephen Parker. “. He’s there every single day at practice,” Onesto said of Collins. “He’s a real member of the team.”
